“Pe‘a’s musical style surprises you mid-song. You can literally hear the soul…in both meanings of the word.” —MauiTime
Kalani Pe’a is one of the most promising talents in a new generation of Hawaiian musicians. He has won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Regional Roots album to date, one for each of his two album releases; his first album also won him a 2017 Nā Hōkū Award (Hawai‘i’s “Grammy”), making Hawaiian music history as the only album to win both a Grammy and Nā Hōkū.
Pe’a began singing at age 4 to address a childhood stutter, and his natural talent was subsequently recognized in singing competitions, bringing him to the forefront of Hawaiian music today. He has been praised for his Hawaiian language fluency, songwriting skills, and commitment to his Hawaiian roots, as well as a musical range that runs from traditional chant to Hawaiian classics to new songs to R&B. His charming and dynamic presence on stage has earned him legions of fans of his live shows.
