“Taking Mexican folk music to the next level with a heavy dose of jazz, rock and classical” —Staccatofy
The Villalobos Brothers are an award-winning family band, acclaimed as one of today’s leading Contemporary Mexican ensembles. Their original compositions and arrangements fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk with jazz and classical music.
The ensemble has delighted audiences across the U.S., Mexico, India, Russia, and Canada. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Latin Grammy Awards, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations, San Jose Jazz Fest, the 66th FIFA Congress in Mexico City, the Blue Note Jazz Festival, the Apollo Theatre, and others.
In 2018, they joined forces with Arturo O’Farrill, the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, and the "Colectivo Conga Patria" for the “Fandango at the Wall” project. This ambitious undertaking united legendary international musicians for a live concert at the Tijuana-San Diego border wall, which resulted in a live album and documentary film by HBO Max. In February 2023, their album Fandango At The Wall Live in NYC won the Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album of the year.
