Summer Arts Camp • Ages 9–14 • July 22–August 2 (two weeks, M–F), 9am–4pm
This introductory camp will teach students all the techniques needed to create and illustrate compelling characters and stories, just like the ones in their favorite comic books. At the start of the week, campers will learn about important aspects of character design and work to bring characters to life by mapping a plot arc; after conceptualizing their story, they will draw panels and storyboards and practice the art of typography, filling their pages with dynamic hand lettering. At the end of the week, each student will walk away with their very own hand-constructed comic book they can share with family and friends at an informal showcase on Friday, August 2. All materials and supplies included with camp fee.
As a part of their Montalvo Arts Center experience, all summer campers will have the opportunity to explore and learn about the native plants and animals around the property and its Santa Clara County Park trails.
